Wiepke Folkerts

Wiepke Folkerts is a Dutch photographer.

Reality is an endless labyrinth of images. A photo makes part of it visible and thus enables interaction between photographer and viewer.

His photography starts with an inspiring reality to which he adds his imagination.

In his mind, reality changes into images that he wants to capture in photos.

Each work is a frozen moment in a story that continues to develop. He sees beauty in powerful forms of installations and constructions and wants to make them visible.

He stands still and experiences space, infinity, peace and quiet.

The subjects and elements are different, but his need is the same: the aesthetic beauty and what he experiences, feels and sees, reveal themselves in photos. Something is created that was not there before.

His photos becomes an extension, but at the same time also a part of reality, to which his interpretation and perspective are added, but also his feeling and experience.

Perspective, cropping, use of color, disturbing elements that must disappear.

They are all parts of the process of choosing and means in his photography to create an image as he imagines it in his head, just as words form a poem and notes form music.

Reality becomes an image, an image becomes a photo, a new piece of reality, ready to share with viewers from their own experience.

A photo that offers space to connect from your own imagination, emotions and feelings.

Photography is autobiographical, he cannot take photos without being who he is. Each photo is a reflection of how he is and how he thinks, and the result of the process that takes place in his head.

With each new image you see more and more of who he is, but never completely, the development continues.

Curious about what is to come.
